Meetings

¯ The Belpre Township Trustees will reschedule its regular scheduled meeting to 4:30 p.m. June 12 at 335 Baker Road, Little Hocking. These meetings are open to the public. For questions, contact the trustees at the township office 740-423-6366.

¯ The Buckeye Hills Regional Advisory Council will meet at 10 a.m. June 28 at the Buckeye Hills office at 1400 Pike St., in Marietta. Questions regarding this meeting should be directed to Janie Collins, Program Assistant at [email protected] or 740-376-1039.

Events

¯ The Washington County Highway Department will close CR 9 from the 12.5mm to the 20mm except for local traffic. The Highway Department is reconstructing the road way grom gravel to hard surface. During this time there will be a petroleum based primer applied to the roadway that will take several days to cure. Please drive slowly and be cautious of men working and fresh tar.

¯ The Tunnel-Warren Chapel United Methodist Churches will provide a free community meal from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday as drive-through pick-ups in the lower parking lot. The menu is taco salad, watermelon, cookies and bottled water. To reserve a meal, please contact Amy at 740-516-0847 by this evening. Tunnel UMC at Ohio 550 and Coffman Road.

¯ The Washington County Republican Party will host a Lincoln Day dinner at 5:30 Thursday. Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted will be the guest speaker. The event will be held at the Marietta Shrine Club and will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

¯ Beverly American Legion Post 389 fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Meal includes fries and cole slaw, $12. Music to follow from 7 to 10 p.m., Fifth St., Beverly. Public welcome.

¯ Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Washington County Health Department, 342 Muskingum Drive, Marietta. Cost is $10 per animal. Dogs must be on a leash. Cats must be in carriers. All animals must be 12 weeks old.

¯ The Fearing Fire Deparment will hold its annual ice cream social at 4 p.m. on Saturday at 1975 Stanleyville Road Whipple. A baked steak dinner will be served with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and choice of dessert tea and coffee included, $10 for adults and $6 for children. The event will also include food outside under the tent such as hamburgers, hot dogs and more, kids’ Games, bingo, dilly dunker, karaoke, king/queen drawing, country store, bounce house and ice cream.

¯ Beverly and Fort Frye High School Alumni Banquet will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Fort Frye High School. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria and meal will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.

¯ South Parkersburg Baptist Church will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 11-15 at 1655 Blizzard Drive, Parkersburg. Age range is from three-year-olds to students about to enter fifth grade. Register online at spbcwv.org.

¯ Little Muskingum VFD Ice Cream Social will be at 4 p.m. June 17 at The Little Muskingum Watershed, intersection of Ohio 26 and Township Road 88. Food and activites for all ages including live music, games and hayride.

¯ Barlow Library Summer Music Series will feature The Pete Shew Band at 6 p.m. June 17. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 740-678-0103.

¯ Father's Day breakfast sponsored by Aurelius Masonic Lodge No. 308 will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18 at the Lower Salem Community Building. Everyone Welcome. Donations accepted.

¯ The Knights of Columbus 4617 will host a Father's Day STAG Fish Fry (Open to gentlemen of the Public and all KofC Members) from noon to 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Churchtown, Ohio (17472 Ohio 676, Marietta) on June 18. Cost is $15 for all-you-can-eat fish, french fries, coleslaw and drinks. 50/50 and tool raffle tickets will be available at the door. Any questions, contact Scott Wells at 740-516-3279.

¯ Fairlawn Baptist Church will hold its Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 19-23.

¯ There will be an election for two Reno Water Board Trustees from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on June 20 at the Reno Water and Sewer District Office, 170 Mount Tom Road. This will be a 3-year Trustee term. Applicants must be a Reno Water customer in good standing with the water meter in their name and live in the Reno area. Only one vote per household. Anyone wanting to run for this position can pick up an application at the office 170 Mount Tom Road Monday through Friday between 11a.m. and 4 p.m. Deadline for applications will be June 9.

¯ The Barlow Library will hold a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 6. Ohio 339, Barlow.

¯St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marietta will host its monthly free community meal on July 11. This is one week later than usual to allow for the various 4th of July activities. The meal is dine-in or take-out. If you want take out meals, you must contact the church office at 740-373-5132 and leave your name and the number of meals requested. A limit may be imposed. If you have any questions, contact Marybeth Peebles at 740-374-6922 and leave a message, including your name and the number of take-out meals requested.

¯ The O’Neill Center will have hand and foot cards at 1 p.m. every Thursday.

¯ The O’Neill Center will have a free afternoon at the movies at 1 p.m. every Friday.

¯ Bingo every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at VFW 5108, 319 Pike St., Marietta. Doors open at 4 p.m. Food available.

¯ A men's breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. every first Tuesday of the month at the O’Neill Center. Breakfast is free, but donations will be accepted.

¯ A free community meal will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta. Pickup only. Enter through the church parking lot from Wooster Street.

¯ A faith-based cancer support group will be offered at noon on the second Monday of the month at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta.

¯ The 1955 graduating class of Marietta High School will meet 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the Harmar Tavern until further notice for the monthly luncheon gathering. All classmates and friends are welcome.

¯ Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta, will offer a free takeout meal from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. the first Friday of the month. All are welcome.

¯ Gilman United Methodist Church offers worship at 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Come early to join the adult Sunday school class at 9:15 a.m. Coffee, light refreshments and good fellowship at "Coffee Time" held at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday, at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. A weekly adult Bible study with Pastor Doug Thompson is also offered at 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome.

Health

¯ The Alzheimer's Association offers professionally led groups for caregivers, individuals living with Alzheimer's and others dealing with the disease of dementia. All support groups are facilitated by trained individuals. Meetings in the area include: Marietta Support Group, from 10-11:30 a.m. first Friday of the month at the O’Neill Center, 333 Fourth St., Marietta; facilitator: Krissy Kearns, 937-974-2387. Belpre Chamber of Commerce from 1-2:40 p.m. second Monday of the month at 713 Park Drive, Belpre; facilitator: Susie Casto.

¯ The O’Neill Center will hold chair volleyball at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, except the second Wednesday of the month.

¯ Mani/pedis with appointments starting at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Cost is $16 for manicure and $33 for pedicure. Call the O’Neill Center for appointments.

¯ TOPS 399, Marietta, meets 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Church of the Nazarene to help members lose weight by group support to a goal set by each member's physician. Weigh-in is between 5:30 and 6 p.m. Visitors are welcome, and the first meeting is free. Call Cindy at 740-629-2957 for details. TOPS Club Inc. is a nonprofit, weight-loss support and wellness education organization in the United States and Canada. Members learn about nutrition, portion control, motivation, food planning and exercise at weekly meetings.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ Zumba classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 11:30 a.m. Monday at the O’Neill Center. The cost is $5 per class or $25 for six classes. All ages welcome. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

¯ The O’Neill Center in Marietta will host bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. No cost at the door to play 20 games, and it is a nickel per card per game. Seating is limited.

¯ Weekly ballroom dancing classes will be 7-10 p.m. the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month at Miller Prosthetics, 2311 Ohio Ave., Parkersburg. Casual dress, $5 per person donation, singles and couples welcome.

¯ The O’Neill Center will have a free gentle yoga class at 10 a.m. every Tuesday.

¯ The O’Neill Center will hold a bridge game 1 p.m. every Tuesday.

¯ The O’Neill Center will hold a euchre game at 1 p.m. every Wednesday.
