The Regina Red Sox opened the 2023 Western Canadian Baseball League on Thursday with a 9-1 win over the host Weyburn Beavers. Mike Piazza was named the player of the game for Regina after going 2-for-6 at the plate with three runs batted in.

The following night the Red Sox were on the other end of things, losing to the host Swift Current 57's by a score of 8-1. The Red Sox bounced back with a 4-3 win on Saturday during the team's rain-shortened home opener.

The Red Sox lost to the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Sunday by a score of 7-1. Regina is back in action Tuesday when they visit Moose Jaw. Their next home game is Thursday when they host the Medicine Hat Mavericks.

The Regina Riot picked up its second win of the Western Women's Canadian Football League season with a 33-7 victory over the Manitoba Fearless on Sunday at Mosaic Stadium.

The Riot jumped out to the early lead and were up 26-0 at the half.

In the second half, Keilyn Howie registered two interceptions as the Riot cruised to the victory in the team's "teal game" in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada.

The Riot will now get set to host the Saskatoon Valkyries on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Liebel Field to wrap up the regular season. The conference quarterfinals will be played the following weekend.

Team Sask's U-17 girls water polo team is coming home with the national championship after beating the Pacific Storm 12-9 in Saturday's gold medal final in Calgary.

Sydney Krushen, who was named tournament MVP, had five goals for Team Sask in the victory, while Leanne Bolstad and Anna Ulmer each had a pair of goals.

Meanwhile, Team Sask's U-17 boys team fell just short in the bronze medal game, finishing in fourth place.

The Regina High School Athletics Association held its annual city track and field award program at Miller High School on the weekend.

Sheldon Williams’ Hannah Gates (intermediate) Campbell's Raina Haus (junior) and LeBoldus’ Victoria Culbert (senior) were the 2023 aggregate winners in the girls’ division.

Riffel's Cooper Englot (intermediate), O’Neill's Justin Ngweto (junior) and Sheldon Williams’ Brett MacLean (senior) were the 2023 aggregate champions on the boys’ side.

There were also record broken during the city meet, as Riffel's Tyia Thomas broke the intermediate girls 200-metre record while Olifemi Akinloye broke the junior boys 200-metre record.

In shotput, Martin's Calder Johnston broke a 50-year record in the intermediate boys’ event.

The Regina Rugby Union opened its season last week with the Regina Rogues defeating the Campion Grads 25-22 in senior men's 15's.
