Baseball to retire Dressendorfer’s jersey number

Three-time All-American and All-SWC player becomes ninth Longhorn baseball player to have his jersey retired.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball great Kirk Dressendorfer will have his jersey retired during the 2023 season, the University of Texas announced. A three-time First Team All-American and All-SWC player, Dressendorfer becomes the ninth former Texas Baseball star to have his jersey retired.

Dressendorfer's No. 10 joins fellow Longhorn greats Scott Bryant (25), Roger Clemens (21), Burt Hooton (20), Brooks Kieschnick (23), Keith Moreland (3), Greg Swindell (21), Huston Street (25), Taylor Jungmann (26) in receiving this honor.

The retirement ceremony is set for the game on Saturday, March 25 against Texas Tech at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

From 1988-90, Dressendorfer compiled the second most wins in Texas history with a 45-8 overall record and the second-most complete games with 33. Dressendorfer is one of only five three-time First Team All-Americans in program history, joining Burt Hooten, Keith Moreland, Greg Swindell and Brooks Kieschnick.

During his three-year career, he recorded a 2.56 ERA with 462 strikeouts in 429.2 innings pitched. Dressendorfer was the three-time Southwest Conference Most Valuable Player and was also the 1988 SWC Newcomer of the Year.

In 1989, Dressendorfer set the program record with 15 complete games, while going 18-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 176 strikeouts in 168.2 innings pitched.

Dressendorfer was inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 2002 and the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Following his Texas career he was selected in the first round of the 1990 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics and played eight seasons of professional baseball, including making his Major League debut for the Athletics in 1991.
