Ranking the best 2022 World Cup jerseys: The top 10 kits on display in Qatar

Aug 28, 2023

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is delivering some exciting football on the pitch.

Aside from stunning goals and star players, each team is also wearing fresh kits designed to catch the attention of fans.

With so many eyes on the World Cup every four years, kit manufacturers do their best to design jerseys that stand out, while staying true to each nation's roots.

Finding the right balance between old and new is no easy feat but a number of teams will be rocking some brilliant kits at the 2022 World Cup. Here's our take on the best.

After taking a close look at every 2022 World Cup kit, The Sporting News has settled on the 10 we like the most.

Everyone's taste in jerseys is different, but these are the ones we believe will catch the eye for the right reasons in Qatar.

Nike have delivered in spades for South Korea this year with this home kit a real classy affair. An overall dark red design is paired perfectly with a black collar and feint black lines on the shoulders. Well worth a Son Heung-min photo.

A football classic and adidas haven't disappointed with Argentina's latest home kit. The iconic white and blue stripes never fail to look slick — particularly when Lionel Messi is tearing up opponents in it.

Yes that's right, the socks are WHITE.Our new kits are OUT: https://t.co/Tq7oFHlHXP#GiveIt100 #Socceroos pic.twitter.com/j4IIPnibVp— Socceroos (@Socceroos) September 15, 2022

The Socceroos have stuck to their traditional green and gold for Qatar. The differing splashes of gold gives the shirt an extra dimension, while the return of green shorts and white socks is something Australian fans have been crying out for from Nike.

Denmark have deliberately released three kits with just one tone on each, with manufacturer Hummel saying that is a move to protest Qatar's human rights record.

The company said it had "toned down" its logo and "iconic chevrons" as, "we don't wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives."

A powerful message making these three otherwise ordinary kits pack an almighty punch. Props to Hummel for executing it so well, too.

Rarely do centrally placed emblems work on kits, but adidas has somehow pulled it off with Germany's new home strip. A vertical rectangular block of black somehow works wonders for this predominantly white jersey.

In keeping with their famous nickname, the Oranje have stuck to their expected orange shirts, but Nike have somehow managed to add some flair. The textured pattern gives the jersey a genuine shine.

With Germany rocking a traditionally slick home kit, they've opted for something more daring with their away jersey. The zig-zag pattern might not be to everyone's liking, but the red, black and gold is hard to argue with.

The Samurai Blue have opted for a dashing home kit for Qatar that is highlighted by white origami cranes that really make the jersey pop. A shirt with a real cutting edge.

Taking a moment to appreciate South Korea's World Cup kit 🤩 pic.twitter.com/9EaDU1xclR

A potentially divisive kit but one that Nike have nailed in our opinion. The vibrant splash of color could have easily backfired but the placement and the black canvas works a treat. A daring kit design that looks destined to stand out in Qatar.

From our roots to our present. ❤️⚽️Meet our new away jersey for the World Cup, Incondicionales. 🇲🇽😍#ElOrigenQueNosUne pic.twitter.com/5fib7L44UK

A jersey that literally has the nations roots drawn on them. Mexico's World Cup away kit is an instant classic with the jersey's visuals complemented perfectly by the white and red.
