Anthony Volpe No. 11 jersey an instant fan favorite, sells out opening day

Yankees' SS Anthony Volpe's jersey was "flying off the shelf" during his highly-anticipated MLB debut on Thursday, according to Max Goodman of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. About "an hour after the final out at Yankee Stadium," only "one Volpe jersey was left in the team store behind home plate." One employee said that it was the "only Volpe jersey left in the entire stadium." Team store employee Emmanuel Aviles said, "It's crazy. I never thought that I would see a rising star that would sell out jerseys that quick. Then again, all the fans have high expectations for Volpe, so it's a no-brainer that they will go crazy for him right away." Aviles and coworkers "restocked the Volpe section of the wall of jerseys eight different times on Opening Day," most of which were "made in-house." Before Volpe even "took the field for lineup introductions, they had to break out another batch." During the game, there were "times where Volpe mania became so hectic that there wasn't enough time to put the No. 11 threads onto hangers" (NJ.com, 3/30).
